Evolution of the Console Controller – Esoteric and Experimental Controllers

Our research for this exhibit led us to discover an astonishing number of game controllers. Some of them we displayed in the exhibit as important, representative, or revolutionary controllers in the process of evolution. Some – including many iconic controllers – we decided to skip in the interests of space and brevity.

A few, we couldn’t fit into the overall narrative, but we also couldn’t bear to neglect. This section of the display is not in chronological order, it’s simply a showcase of curious controllers. Some were experimental controllers that proved unsuccessful, some were extremely successful controllers that have rarely been reproduced, and some are modern experimental controllers.
